Jacksonville Public Education Fund Announces the 2020 Teachers of the Year

The Jacksonville Public Education Fund (JPEF) facilitates the Teacher of the Year awards in Duval County, and has developed a yearlong program to celebrate, elevate and empower Duval County’s top teachers from traditional and public charter schools. The cornerstone is the EDDY Awards, an elegant gala to celebrate all the teachers of the year and announce the Florida Blue Duval County Teacher of the Year. This school year, the EDDY Awards are on January 17, 2020.

This year, the group includes a wide range of identities representing parents in Duval County: men and women, Jews, Hindus and Muslims, refugees, military parents, as well as many political affiliations and professions, including a forklift driver and the CEO of a company.

Since January, our community has been discussing a half-cent sales tax to repair and replace our aging school buildings. The Jacksonville Public Education Fund, as an independent, data-driven organization working to close the opportunity gap in traditional and charter public schools in Duval County, calls on the Jacksonville City Council to place the School Board’s resolution on the ballot. The voters should have the chance to better fund our public schools.

Allishia Bauman was featured in one of JPEF’s first initiatives, the 1 in 3 exhibit at the Cummer Museum, which highlighted the stories of students who struggled to graduate from high school.
