Kevin Dunbar used the opportunity afforded to him through the Cindy Edelman Excellence in Teaching Fellowship to deepen his expertise as an elementary media specialist for Duval County Public Schools by exploring new trends, resources, and best practices in literacy education.

JPEF asked Mr. Dunbar to share some thoughts from his experience as an Edelman Fellow.

Titoya Murphy was part of a team of teachers from Northwestern Legends Academy who used the Edelman Excellence in Teaching Fellowship to travel to Boston, Mass., to attend the Engineering is Elementary (EIE) professional development program at the Museum of Science. The team's goal was to acquire new engineering modules and insights that they would share with colleagues through direct implementation in their classrooms and collaborative discussions. She shares what she and her fellow teachers learned and how they are using it in their classrooms.

The Cindy Edelman Excellence in Teaching Fellowship is an unprecedented opportunity for K-12 Duval County public school teachers to elevate their teaching careers through a professional development activity of their choosing. We asked Marissa Hein, who recently got back from her trip Malta, a few questions about the experience.

Thirteen Duval County public school teachers will be embarking on the professional learning experience of their dreams and bringing what they learn back to their classrooms, thanks to the Cindy Edelman Excellence in Teaching Fellowship. Supported by an endowed fund housed at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida and administered by the JPEF, the fellowship provides opportunities for teachers to develop their own professional learning opportunities to enhance their classroom teaching and benefit their school community
