Aubrey Albaracin: Transforming Lives at Greenland Pines Elementary

Aubrey Albaracin, a third- and fourth-grade special education teacher at Greenland Pines Elementary, is changing lives. Initially pursuing a career in nursing, she discovered her true passion during a pediatric rotation while working closely with children. Inspired by a teacher who once helped her overcome bullying she pivoted to education, determined to provide that same encouragement to students with special needs.

Nearly 20,000 students in Duval County Public Schools have been identified as having disabilities, yet the district has only about half the number of teachers needed to serve them. Despite their critical role, special education teachers often face significant barriers to entry and retention.

Ms. Albaracin is proof of the transformative impact that dedicated educators can have. Since 2013, she has been a tireless advocate for students requiring moderate to high support, helping them achieve individualized education plan (IEP) goals and develop essential behavioral skills. Her personalized approach has yielded measurable success—80% of her students have improved their social and behavioral skills, paving the way for academic growth.

The Jacksonville Public Education Fund (JPEF) is committed to supporting educators like Ms. Albaracin, a top five finalist for VyStar Duval County Teacher of the Year, and strengthening Duval County Public Schools.

You can make a difference by advocating for the district’s 2025 legislative platform, which includes:

  • Streamlined processes for special education teachers

  • Temporary waivers for experienced educators

  • Expedited workforce entry for out-of-state teachers
